Carbon Railroad Spikes
Carbon Railroad Spikes
Nothing looks tougher than a railroad spike knife, a bold statement of skillful forging: there is not a lot of steel in a spike, and not a lot of room for mistakes.
Use these quality spikes to forge your own indestructible blade.
A “high-carbon” railroad spike is high-carbon when compared to a standard railroad spike. An old railway engineer once told me that every tenth spike is high-carbon, as are most of the spikes on turns or high-traffic areas. The rest are only mild steel.
You can find these higher-carbon spikes through lab testing, or looking for the “H” stamped on the head.
These unused “high-carbon” railroad spikes test out at around 0.34% Carbon - enough to make a tough, serviceable blade.
Each spike is 6” long, with a 5/8” shaft.
Sold in sets of 3.
